Top Tips for Taking Care of Your Roof as the Seasons Change

Fall is officially just around the corner!  September 22 is the first official day of fall.

Before you know it the season will be upon us so I thought it a great time to take a look at five ways to get your roof ready for fall.

  1. Inspect the inside of your home. Do a walk-through on a sunny day to see if you spot any leaks or water spots on your ceiling. This may be a sign of shingles that have pulled loose. Don’t forget to check the attic!
  2. Inspect your shingles. Walk around the perimeter of your home to see if you notice any missing shingles. Also look for loose shingles. These may blow up and allow moisture to enter your home. Make a note of where you suspect any damage.
  3. Look for gaps or cracks in your roof. High temperatures can cause damage to your roof. Some of the materials may expand, causing them to crack and leave gaps. This creates openings for water to enter. This can result in leaks or mold and mildew growth.
  4. Inspect any seals in your roof. Are there any gaps in the seals around the chimneys, skylights, pipes, or other openings? If so, you may need to repair gaps or replace flashing to prevent water from entering your home.
  5. Clean out the gutters. Get a jump on those falling leaves by making sure your gutters and downspouts are cleaned out. A buildup of leaves can keep the water from flowing properly, creating the chance for water damage to occur.

Your roof is one of the most important parts of your house. It protects the entire structure of your home from the elements. Doing maintenance checks and repairs on your roofing is not something that you can do yourself. This is a difficult task and the repairs need to be done efficiently and accurately. You need to be able to repair all the damaged areas of the roof to prevent it from deteriorating further. This is not an easy task and hiring a roofing contractor will be so much easier on you. You can be assured that the job is done well.

This list is great! I would say that home is the biggest investment. And this article gave me a great insight that I really have to take care of my home. One of my biggest headaches is our roof. Looking for more years to restore our home though and I found a site that offers roof restorations melbourne, I just realized that awesome design of roof and restoration of it should be inseparable. It's http://www.theroofdoctor.com.au/ if you want to check out reviews as well.

Great post, roof leaks can be untimely and you need to take care of them as soon as possible! If you don’t you could end up with more damage in the long run! Nick

That's good to know that loose shingles can blow up and allow water to enter your home which is why you need to make note of them. This is helpful since I found a few shingles that seem to move a bit when we have really strong winds. I'll have to find a roofing contractor that can come look at them and see if there's something they can do to restore it so I won't get rain inside my home.

We have a lot of tall trees around our home. Every year the leaves clog the gutters. I don’t enjoy paying to have the gutters cleaned, but I do anyway. Clogged gutters can increase your chances of ice dams under the shingles. Gutters that are clear will allow water to drain off properly.
