The Obstacles of Roofing Done Right!

I’ve done roofing a long time now and I always find it interesting when someone thinks that just anybody can climb up there and take off the old shingles and put on some new ones.  Easy right?

Well, perhaps not so fast. There IS a reason that roofing is a profession! Professionals not only know how to approach and work on a roof safely but they are trained in getting around all of those roofing obstacles that many of us have on our roof.

Obstacles you say?  Yes…think about those vents, skylights, chimneys, solar panels and all the things in between that interrupt the flow of the roof that is to be laid. These have to be dealt with properly because extra attention is needed in areas where moisture could come in.

Vents are a necessary part of any house. They allow air in and to circulate around your house all while not allowing rain or snow to enter. There is even a vent on the roof for the sewage line that takes the old used water out of the house. It is on the roof to allow all the pipes the gift of gravity as there is no greater vertical drop on a house than one that comes from the roof.

Whether you have a working fireplace or not, you may have a chimney. They are obviously needed if you do have a fireplace, but some choose to let the chimney remain after the original fireplace gone for the nice look it can give to a house.

Skylights are another popular obstacle on the roof because people love natural light!  They are a great addition to any home but again, if they are not properly sealed from the roof they will do more harm than good.

Another thing I am starting to see a lot of these days is solar panels.  Good for you, you want to get environmentally friendly, but, did you know this is another roof obstacle that must be handled with the utmost of care when re-roofing?

A final thought is that any roofing obstacle will need to have pros expertly install flashing around it to work with your shingles to get that watertight fit.

At Class Eh! Roofing, we have done every job…large or small and that includes ones that have required lots of extra attention to detail so that these “obstacles” that make your home what it is on the roof, are properly taken care of and you can have many years of care free enjoyment!

If you are looking for advice on your current roofing project, please do not hesitate to give us a call and we would be pleased to help you out.
